Outdoor adventures in New York state
As someone who grew up in Pennsylvania, summer vacations were often to our northern neighbor, New York. In the warmer months, take a week and rent a cabin on the Finger Lakes for a quiet and serene nature escape. When you're ready to venture back into civilization, head to Watkins Glen for its spectacular waterfalls and hiking paths and peruse downtown Ithaca's quaint shops. Don't miss Corning's famed Corning Museum of Glass, and when you're ready to move on, finish off your vacation by heading West to visit Niagara Falls.
Alternatively, if you're really looking to get off the map, spend a week at White Pine Camp in the Adirondacks. Enjoy your daylight hours hiking around the pond, playing badminton, and kayaking. But don't wear yourself out too much! Nights should be spent in a reclining Adirondack chair, gazing up at the Milky Way in this dark sky haven.
